The state of New Hampshire is the first state in the US to have a female Governor, a female Senate President and a female House Speaker all at the same time. Governor Jeanne Shaheen, a Democrat, was elected New Hampshire's first female Governor in 1996. Representative Donna Sytek, a Republican, became the first woman to lead the House a month later. Senator Beverly Hollingworth, a Democrat, became Senate President in September 1999. Now that the glass ceiling in government has been demolished in New Hampshire, it is time to smash the glass ceiling in government, corporations and other venues in all of the states of the US. For giving a whole new meaning to "America the Beautiful" and for being a harbinger of the the better, more decent, more real democracy to come, New Hampshire has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
