Travis Childers is the new Democratic Congressman for the 1st district of Mississippi, having won the 2008 Special Election and the 2008 General Election. Childers is for a sustainable, affordable and abundant agricultural industry, transparent and accountable earmarks, a six point energy plan for short term relief and long term solutions, effective solutions for our financial problems, quality affordable health care for all Americans, encouraging investment in small businesses, addressing the housing crisis by providing fiscally responsible solutions, using recovery funding to improve law enforcement/health care/housing/energy /environment/military/veterans/education, fair trade deals, broad middle class tax reform, full Social Security without privitization, expanding in-home care for seniors, getting America moving in the proper direction, increased funding for public education, and swift withdrawal of American troops from Iraq. He has stayed true to his populist beliefs but has worked hard to maintain a strong independent streak as he represents a highly conservative Southern district that supported both George W.
