Martin Heinrich is the new Democratic Congressman for the 1st district of New Mexico, replacing Republican Heather Wilson. He is the first Democrat to ever represent New Mexico's first district. He is for energy independence; ending the war in Iraq; stopping the automatic $4,700 salary raise for members of Congress; for the American Clean Energy and Security Act; support for all Iranian citizens who embrace the values of freedom, human rights, civil liberties and rule of law; The Peace Act; condemning the murder of Dr. George Tiller who was shot to death at his church; family smoking prevention and tobacco control act; consumer assistance to recycle and save act; international science and technology cooperation act; paid parental leave act; recognition of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina; recognition to Chickahominy Tribes, to Upper Mattaponi Tribe, to Rappahannoc Tribe, to Monacan Indian Nation and to Nansemonal Indian Tribe; for the prevent all cigarette trafficking act. He wants to put middle class families first, improve our infrastructure, greatly increase our use of wind and solar power so that we can decrease the environmental destruction caused by burning oil, gasoline and coal.
