Daniel Maffei is the new Democratic Congressman for the 25th district of New York. Maffei knows that making a difference in the economy and in the lives of middle class families means taking on the special interests like the big oil companies and HMOs instead of getting bogged down in partisan politics. He has a real plan to jumpstart the economy by ending the tax breaks that reward companies for moving jobs overseas, for supporting local small businesses and for using public-private partnerships to grow high-tech jobs in healthcare and alternative energy. He knows we can make great strides in our communities if everyone stays committed to action. The Maffei-Maloney Amendment went into effect starting August 20/09 as part of a reform package that will help protect consumers from excessive credit card rate hikes and from unfair, incomprehensible agreements to revise at will. The amendment requires credit card companies to provide written notice to customers 45 days in advance of any increase of the interest rate. Other parts of the Amendment go into effect next year. The entire package will help protect consumers from being unfairly treated by their credit card companies. Expect more good news to happen.
