Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, U.S. Section opposes military action in Afghanistan because they know that US and Allied action creates more danger to the people of Afghanistan and to the people of the USA because it increases the slaughter there thus creating more US enemies instead of less. This is true because they are slaughtering more innocent Afghans than they are killing militant Taliban by their indescriminant use of remotely-operated drones which cannot home in only on militant Taliban thus making every drone strike a war crime. At least 2100 Afghan civilians died in conflict-related deaths in 2008. Afghan women's organizations and Madre and the Global Fund for Women have stated that the occupying militrary US presence increases the level of violence in Afghan communities resorting in more civilian deaths and abductions and more dangerous conditions for women seeking to participate in public life, peace building and civilian governance. The Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan are not a direct threat to the US and US military activity in both countries continues to alienate residents and encourages more men to join the Taliban. NATO forces in Afghanistan have not adopted gender sensitive practices and are not implementing Security Council Resolution 1325. For working hard and smart to provide a decent society for all of us, Women's International League for Peace and Freedom has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
