FUTURESAVER OF THE WEEK ENDING 10-17-2009

Better

Michelle Bachelet is the President of Chile and has earned the title on her own merits. She was imprisoned by the dictatorship of Gen. Alberto Pinochet who was later indicted for crimes against humanity. She is committed to creating a better future, resolving problems democratically and that human rights must be sacrosanct. She says that more officers have been tried in Chile for crimes committed during the dictatorships than in any other country where there has been a transition from an abusive military regime to democracy. She belongs to the Council of Women World Leaders. Santiago is booming and the whole nation is prospering. Poverty has been drastically reduced and educational opportunities have been expanded. She is pushing restructuring of education to make it more available to everyone. She is working to prevent another takeover of the government by the military so that never again will their be another democracy-destroying criminal takeover of government. She is pushing for women to be treated as equal to men in the work force. Before she was elected the gap between rich and poor was one of the largest in the world. In September 2009 her approval rating stood at an all-time high 72%. In high school she was class president and did choir, volleyball, theater, music and festivals. For working hard and smart to provide a decent society for Chile, President Michelle Bachelet has been named Futuresaver of the Week. Click the links below for more information.
