Kurt Schrader is the new Democratic Congressman for the 5th district of Oregon, replacing Darlene Hooley who resigned. Schrader is for targeted investments in wind, wave, solar, biomass and other promissing alternative energy sources to decrease global warming and increase jobs. He supports better education from pre-K through higher education. He is for health care reform that is accessable to all, affordable and of the hightest quality. He is for effective long term investments to rebuild our economy and create a better future for all with a world-class community college system. He wants a strong public option that reduces health care costs for families and small businesses. Inefficiencies, waste and abuse in the current system need to be eliminated. Preventive and primary care will reduce long term costs and make Medicare more solvent along with all other care. He introduced simplified home office deduction, protecting Oregon National Guard Members, better health care practices and modernize and make schools more energy efficient. Congressman Schrader is a veterinarian and farmer with his wife Martha on Three Rivers Farm in Canby where they grew and sold organic fruit and vegetables. Before being elected to Congress he owned and managed the Clackamas County Veterinary in Oregon City.
