FUTURESAVER OF THE WEEK ENDING 11-28-2009

Susan Herman is President of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and Centennial Professor of Law, Brooklyn Law School. She became ACLU President in 2008 after having served on the ACLU National Board of Directors for twenty years, as a member of the Executive Committee for sixteen years and as a General Counsel for ten years. She holds a chair as Centennial Professor of Law at Brooklyn Law School teaching courses in Constitutional Law and Criminal Procedure and seminars on Law and Literature and Terrorism and Civil Liberties. She has been on NPR, PBS, CSPAN, NBC, MSNBC and the Today in New York show. She has written for Newsday and the New York Times and other publishers. She has been a frequent speaker at academic conferences and continuing legal education events for the Federal Judicial Center, the American Bar Association, lecturing and conducting workshops for judges and lawyers. She gave speeches at the U.S. Army War College and many other schools. She participated in Supreme Court litigation for the ACLU on constitutional criminal procedure issues. She conducted Supreme Court moot counts and did federal lobbying. She was Pro Se Law Clerk for the United States Court of appeals for the Second Circuit and had many other duties.
