FUTURESAVER OF THE WEEK ENDING 12-12-2009

Mary McAleese is the President of Ireland, the second woman to be Ireland's President. The presidency is open to all citizens of the nation who are at least 35. The President has limited powers for most power is vested in the parliament, senate, cabinet and supreme court. There is no vice president. McAleese is the first President from Northern Ireland. She is a voice for Ireland at home and abroad. She is commited to the welfare of all the Irish and to spread the benefits of their prosperity to those whose lives are still mired in poverty, unemployment, worry and despair. She will not rest until the harsh gap between the comfortalble and the struggling has been bridged. Her theme is building bridges to a better tomorrow utilizing technologically skilled young people. Seemingly opposite beliefs can be melded into a powerful engine of creation. She knows that violent conflict can bring cruelty and capriciousness and should be replaced with productive negotiations leading toward peace and reconciliation. No side of any conflict has a monopoly on pain and suffering. She wants to create an inclusive smart economy in Ireland. She sees the advantages of focused, targeted, relevant and high quality training programs and of a collaborative approach between industry, government, educational providers and local development agencies. For working hard and smart to improve Irish economic justice, Mary McAleese has been named Futuresaver of the week. Click the links below for more information.
