FUTURESAVER OF THE WEEK ENDING 12-19-2009

John Bonine is a Dean's Distinguished Faculty Fellow at the University of Oregon. He is a pioneer of environmental law in the USA and a Professor in Oregon's LL.M in Environmental and Natural Resources Law. He was an assistant in the USA Senate and a supervisor in the Environmental Protection Agency. He created/cofounded the first environmental law clinic (now the Western Environmental Law Center), the Public Interest Environmental Law Conferences, ELAW (the Environmental Law AllianceWorldwide), a discussion network of environmental law professors and the Oregon-Lviv University Partnership. He co-authored two text books, Law of Environmental Protection and Human Rights and the Environment. He pushes public participation and access to justice in environmental decision-making. He teaches Administrative Law, Comparative Environmental Law, Constitutional Law, Environmental Law and the LL.M Seminar. He is a member of the Commission on Environmental Law of the World Concervation Union and an elected member of the International Council of Environmental Lawyers. ELAW now has 300 environmental lawyers in 70 countries. He negotiates for the European ECO Forum and is Chair of the Board of Directors of Ecology-People Law, Ukraine. He is now in Copenhagen, Denmark trying hard to help forge a climate change agreement at the world summit on climate to include human rights language into the treaty.
