Journalists involved in publication of information concerning BSE

It has been important that this information was spread in a manner that did not create scare stories. The journalists listed here have been involved in this and would not consider putting out stories aimed at misleading the population.

What has happened is that the data on BSE has been held back for such a long time that when it did break the result was always likely to be bad in terms of beef sales. These are journalists who want the population to know what is going on and it may well have been that if data appeared slowly during the epidemic it would not have caused the shock that it did at the time of the British Government's announcements in March 1996.

Remember that some journalists just like their expenses and to keep a steady job. BSE is not desirable for anyone; journalists that write about this have to put their heart on the line. Dont ring with information that is not new or significant.

There is one person that is particularly looking for the effects of the media on the response to nvCJD:

NB There are a lot more hard working journalists than the ones here. If you are a journalist that has been working on the subject, please contact me to have your name added.
